So I know it has been a long time since I squawked about a restaurant, but The Bird is worth squawking about. This past Tuesday evening some friends and I went to The Pig for the The Bird pop-up. The Bird is EatWell DC’s newest venture, which is touted as a “Beak to Toe” restaurant, which means it will serve all parts of the bird, as well as vegetables grown on the company’s farm, craft cocktails, beers and wine. All four of us loved our meals. There was so much food that we had a couple of doggie (or in this case “birdie”) bags to take home. They start you off by bringing a bowl of bird feed to the table instead of bread. The bird feed is made up of many things (sunflower, pumpkin, benne, black sesame, hemp and chia seeds, roasted black lentils, red and green raisins, cranberries, apricots and nigella) but no nuts for those of you with nut allergies. We had a couple of appetizers, and both were delicious. One was the sweet and spicy chicken wings, and the other was the flight of eggs, consisting of quail, partridge, chicken and duck eggs. I recently was in Rehoboth and had such a great experience at Salt Air. My guests and I started out with salads, and they were delicious! I had the Shrimp Salad Wedge (no, I didn’t eat this all myself!) My other guest had the Beet Salad, which was roasted beets, pistachios, and goat cheese served on top of arugula. It looked amazing. For my main course I ordered the Seafood Stew. It was so good that I was almost tempted to ask for a straw to drink the saffron tomato broth. Our dessert resembled a candy bar…loaded with caramel, chocolate, coconut and I’m not even sure what else. It sure was worth the carbs! Don’t forget, Salt Air is part of the Big Fish Restaurant Group. Dine with them and earn rewards. If you haven’t already, you should sign up! I look forward to seeing you at the beach this summer!
